12 Days of Christmas: Day 10 “Ice Cream Scoops”

Here’s another throw back from my childhood.  When I was young, my teacher at church had made ice cream scoops to help us memorize the “Articles of Faith.”  When Joseph Smith, who was the prophet of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the 1800s, (today also just happens to be his birthday) was asked repetitively about his beliefs, he was inspired to write down 13 points of doctrine.  This is what I learned about as a child and memorized.  I still can quote them all today.  I remember that the ice cream scoops was a fun way to memorize and encourage me along the way.  Every time I had one memorized I got to put a scoop on the ice cream cone.

Here’s my sketch of an ice cream cone and scoops for your use.  Just print, cut and laminate them.  If you are not a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints you can still use the ice cream scoops for any other rewards.  How about when memorizing addition facts or multiplication tables?  When your child memorizes 2×2, 2×3, 2×4… all the way to 2×13 you can add the scoop with the number “2” on it for example.  I’d love to hear how you incorporate this fun packet into your family life.  After your child completes all 13 scoops have an ice cream party to celebrate!
