Countdown to Conference: Elder Robert D. Hales

I am so excited to share with you a fun game that I was inspired to create today!  I drew all the pieces including the catcher so you are in for a unique and one-of-a-kind game to help teach your children about Elder Robert D. Hales, a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles.  To get the answers to the game, go visit this link and also his official biography here.

Elder Hales was a baseball pitcher.  I thought it would be fun to come up with a game that not only would be fun but educational.  Here's what I came up with.

General Conference Elder HalesAll you need to do is Subscribe to our website on the left hand side.  We only need your email address.  We will then email you all the pieces that you need to complete this fun game!

You just have to print out all the images onto card-stock, cut and laminate them.  This is a easy game to clean up and store since the pieces can all be stacked up and put into a ziploc bag with the catcher and ball.  To make the catcher just attach a small piece of velcro in the middle of the glove like it shows in the picture to the left.  You will also need a ping-pong ball.  Add the other piece of velcro to the ball so that it will stick to the catcher when you someone throws it.  You will also need a dice and a marker for each person.  Don't forget to Subscribe and I will send you the marker baseball players when I figure out how to draw them!

How to play:  When it is your turn, roll the dice and move counter-clockwise from home base towards first.  Read the baseball which will either have a question about Elder Hales or two other statements.  One will say, "You're Out, move back ??  spaces" and the other ones will have something that says "You hit a double, move ahead ?? spaces."  Each time you land on a base, it will say "You get to throw a pitch."  In honor of Elder Hales, take your best shot at a pitch.  You choose a player to be the catcher.  While they hold the catcher image in front of them, the person who's turn it is will pitch the ball and try to pitch a strike right into the glove.  You also get to pitch when you pass any of the bases even if you don't land on them.  This is totally fun.  I was playing with it tonight so I know it works.  I can't wait to show my kids this game tomorrow.  Continue to take turns until someone makes it home.  You can go around as many times as you would like.  I want to create a score card too that you can keep track of runs as you play a few rounds of baseball.  I hope it helps your children get excited about learning who Elder Hales is so that during General Conference next week they might feel a little more of a connection towards him.

General Conference Elder Hales

Now for some inspiring words from Elder Hales.  This first video has always been one of my favorite Mormon Messages since I heard this portion from a Conference talk a few years ago.

Such an inspiring video below too.  "Are you in there?"  Wow, that is a statement that we all can think about more as we are in a world with constant distractions that take away from our precious time with our family.
