Day 2: Today, we talked about the History of Temples. Here's a great article starting with Moses and talking about 23 other temples around the world. We started early today by building The Tabernacle that Moses was instructed to build. It was a portable temple that would travel with the Israelites as they wondered in the wilderness. All of my kids had a blast building the temple. Here's a couple pictures of our finished Tabernacle. As you can see the tabernacle is very well guarded! Too funny. I call them our Army of Angels protecting the House of God. The ark of the covenant should of been inside but my boys wanted to show off the Ten Commandments that were inside. I have always wondered what happened to the Ark of the Covenant and Ten Commandments when the Babylonians destroyed Solomon's temple…
Pull out all your legos and let the kids go to town or you can use any other building blocks like Lincoln Logs. There are some awesome Tabernacle Model Kits out there too. We decided to go with simple is best today and it worked! I'd love to see your pictures of what you build. Feel free to post them to our Facebook page.
After we built the tabernacle, we watched the video below. The kids were better prepared to listen to the video since they had spent so much time working on it. We talked about who carried the ark of the covenant and what happened to the man that touched the side of the ark when it shook. This story is found in 2 Samuel 6. “And when they came to Nachon’s threshing floor, Uzzah put forth his hand to the ark of God, and took hold of it; for the oxen shook it. And the anger of the Lord was kindled against Uzzah; and God smote him there for his error, and there he died by the ark of God." Read more about "What it Means to Steady the Ark?" found near the bottom of the article.
Here is the video to share with your family. Awesome history about the tabernacle.
If the video above doesn't show, please watch it here at the LDS Media Library.
Check out this 17 year old boys Solomon's Temple made from Legos. Amazing!
I’m not seeing the link to the video? Can you tell me where to find it? These lessons are awesome! Thanks so much!

I am so glad you are enjoying this temple series. We had a lot of fun learning more about the temple as a family. I just posted the link for the video but here it is too. https://www.lds.org/media-library/video/2011-03-045-the-tabernacle?lang=eng
