Okay so I am not quite there on being organized since I can't seem to even blog in an organized way. Today I will skip my laundry that I already did and blog about it next week. (That should be a subtle hint that it is a little too messy for pictures right now. Yikes!) Well, I did say this would be a RAW project.
We will skip to my bedroom. Now that is usually not such a pretty place. In order to clean the master bedroom, it is important to start in the closet so you can organize it and make room for what ever else is hiding in the corners of the room. It was a perfect place for me since my rack which was holding up my clothes in the closet broke. So after a few weeks of all my closet clothes on my bed and sleeping in the guest room, I decided I'd better start there.
I forgot to take a picture of the before, but the only thing that was in the closet was the one row of white wire hanger that you see now as a top shelf. This was a very piece-together project. I used every available scrap wood and I still needed to pick up another piece of 1×12. So, off to Lowe's again. After getting the kids in the car, I realized that I couldn't find my purse, so I dug out my piggy bank (actually it is a tiki man) and took out $13 of quarters. The poor lady at Lowe's should run when she sees us coming. After our purchase of one piece of wood, since that was all I had from my tiki man, I finished the closet. It isn't the best looking closet, but hey on a tight budget it does the job and I am very happy with how it turned out. Thanks to my little helper who helped me sand and paint, we got it done pretty quickly. The canvas baskets on the top shelves are mostly empty, plenty room for future storage. Total cost about $50 for the entire project.
Tip of the Day: Don't try to take short cuts when working with your tools and hardware. I thought I'd just use my electric screwdriver without pre-drilling a hole since I was anxious to finish the project and the screw slipped and the drill took a chunk from my thumb, hince the bloody thumb. Good job. Word of advise, don't take the short-cuts. Always, pre-drill and it will be much easier and less painful in the long run.
Deal of the Day: Baskets on the top two shelves came from Lowe's for only $2 each and they are made of canvas. Regular price was $20. Shop the end aisles!!
