Pioneering Woman

March is Women's' History Month.  For ever profession women pursue today, some woman somewhere was the first to lead the way.  Here are a few "firsts" whose name should not be forgotten.

  • Ann Teresa Mathews – Invented a method of cleaning and curing corn which she applied for a patent, the patent was granted to her husband in 1715.
  • Mary Katherine Goddard – Was a Postmaster in 1775.
  • Victoria Challin Woodhull – Ran for U.S. President in 1872.
  • Alice Paul & Lucy Burns – Founders of the Congressional Union for Women Suffrage in 1913, securing a woman's right to vote.
  • Jeannette Rankin – Won a seat in Congress in 1917.
  • Wilma Randolph – 3-time Olympic gold-medalist in 1960.
  • Sally Ride – Astronaut and the first American Woman in space in 1983.

We appreciate all the women in history that have made it possible for us to have all the rights and opportunities that we have.  Thanks for standing out and making a difference!  Loretta
