Dana Point Festival of Whales

In Dana Point, California, the month of March is a peak time for whale-watching as the migration path of California Gray Whales brings large numbers of the majestic creatures to the area.  A bank of cliffs near Dana Point's harbor is a navigational landmark for the whales, bringing upward of 50 whales per day within sight from the town.  The annual festival kicks off with a parade, where elaborate floats and costumes capture the spirit of the event's "Magical Migration" theme.  There are also fairs, sporting events, culinary gatherings, concerts, and of course myriad whale-watching opportunities and excursion.  This year, the festival is being held March 7-8 and 14-15.
