I am really excited about next year's theme for the young men and young women. It comes from James 1:5-6 which says, "If any of you lack wisdom, let him him of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed."
I have always loved that scripture and while serving a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, I was able to share that with the Puerto Rican people daily. In a world where right is considered wrong and wrong is right, there is a tremendous need for not only the young people but for everyone to seek truth from God. As I was pondering on what I could come up with to help the youth focus on "asking of God," I watched this video called "Origin."
I love this movie and decided to use it for my inspiration behind some materials to help the youth. I grabbed a pencil, paper and started to sketch a girl sitting on a bench praying. Once I finished it, I was trying to figure out what to put in the background. I thought about what she might be praying for and so I drew a thinking bubble, added the year scripture theme and drew some icons that would symbolize what she might be praying for. I was happy how it turned out. I was asked about doing an image for both young women and young men so I came up with the hand holding the cell phone. You'll catch a glimpse of the girl in the video above looking at her phone which inspired my second sketch. This would be a great image for all the youth to help them remember the theme and remind them of all the ways they can use their phone to strength their testimony.
This complete kit is available in my Etsy Shop.
I made some Personal Progress Ticket Treat cards that you can use each month as you focus on one of the values. On the front has the value scripture and the backside has a journal space. You can encourage the girls to work on one Personal Progress value for the month. Have them fill in the backside about what they did or testimony about that value and bring the bottom ticket part to church for a treat!
Here is a Happy Birthday card freebie for you to use in your Young Women's organization. You can attach it to a candy bar or other gift ideas that you might have for next year. Just click on the image below to download the pdf file. Enjoy!
